Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot spots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map,  search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions at that location.

We are able to observe the ocean conditions within this area clearly today using a combination of high resolution infrared imagery from early and late this afternoon with MODIS chlorophyll (dissolved organic matter) data from over the past 24 hours. Overall, we are able to observe two counter clockwise rotating eddy features offshore of 200 fathom depths with centers of circulation south of East Breaks near 95°40’W & 27°27’N and southeast of Magnum 357 near 95°32’W & 26°54’N. The counter clockwise rotation of these eddies is pulling blue 76.3°F-78.2°F water inshore over 50 fathom depths from Campeche westward to North Bakers Rock and southward along the 40-50 fathom ledges to Ranzell’s. The favorable inshore motion of this blue water will provide your better chances for fishing action with tuna, dolphin, wahoo and billfish, especially where favorable conditions have remained over good bottom locations for multiple days.

With this in mind, the ocean conditions south of Freeport and Port O’Connor suggest your better overall chances for fishing action with tuna, dolphin, wahoo and billfish will occur along the inshore northern edge of the finger of blue 77.2°F water that continues to remain inshore of East Breaks and the Big Fish over the 40 and 50 fathom ledges for the past 2-3 days from near 95°13’W & 27°56’N eastward to near 95°23’W & 27°53’N to 95°30’W & 27°53’N and along the 40 fathom ledge to near 95°45’W & 27°47’N. As you continue a bit further offshore, favorable conditions have also remained stable for two days along the edge of the warmer filament of 78.2°F blue water where it lies over the good bottom of East Breaks from near 95°32’W & 27°43’N to 95°38’W & 27°44’N, and near 95°45’W & 27°40’N. Additional chances for fishing action is also likely to occur east of the Big Fish where the northward inshore movement of the blue 77.2°F-78.2°F water has provided improved conditions for fishing action along the western edge of The Hilltops near 95°08’W & 27°51’N, 95°00’W & 27°45’N and near 94°58’W & 27°33’N, as well as, just offshore of the Tequila and Sunrise rigs where favorable, yet different, conditions have remained for two days near 94°58’W & 27°52’N, 94°46’W & 27°50’N, and near 94°37’W & 27°52’N.

Offshore of Aransas Pass, the ocean conditions do not appear as favorable for fishing action due to the offshore southward motion of the water. However, increased chances for fishing action with tuna, dolphin, wahoo and billfish will occur along the northern edge of the pool of blue 77.2°F water where favorable conditions have remained for the past three days from over the 50 fathom ledge near 96°38’W & 26°59’N eastward to over the 100 fathom ledge near 96°28’W & 26°55’N to over 300 fathom depths north of Colt 45 near 96°15’W & 26°53’N, and to over 500 fathom depths near 96°01’W & 26°49’N. Although the water north of Nueses Dome appears unstable as it gets pulled in a southward and offshore direction, increased chances for fishing action will also occur along the inshore edges of the blue 77.2°F-78.2°F water where it lies from over the 100 fathom ledge near 96°01’W & 27°32’N, and southward to over the Explosives Dump area near 96°03’W & 27°49’N to near 96°04’W & 27°11’N. Additional offshore chances for fishing action is likely to occur along the inshore edge of the finger of blue 78.2°F water that is being pulled inshore over the 500 fathom ledge, and where favorable conditions have remained for the past two days, over the Magnum 357 near 95°42’W & 27°07’N to 95°47’W & 27°04’N to over the good bottom of San Benito Dome near 95°23’W & 26°53’N. On your way offshore, do not overlook the relatively strong blue green to blue boundary zone (75.5°F-76.3°F) as it may provide increased chances for fishing action inshore of the 100 fathom ledge over the good bottom areas along the 50 fathom ledge from Baker’s Rock near 96°13’W & 27°40’N to south of Hospital Rock near 96°26’W & 27°29’N to 96°30’W & 27°53’N, over the 44 Fathom Bulge near 96°42’W & 27°13’N, and inshore over the 30 fathom ledge near 96°52’W & 27°08’N and 96°53’W & 27°03’N.
