ROFFS FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS
FOR THE ABACO ISLANDS AREA (LAT./LONG.)
SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot dots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location.
While we have relied on ocean color_chlorophyll data to provide the analysis the past two days, we have seen the ocean conditions in this area relatively clearly today and we have used only infrared (sst°) data to complete today’s analysis. Overall, we continue to observe three areas with distinct current patterns. North/northwest of Abaco we continue to observe the counter-clockwise rotating eddy feature that was centered in the area of 77°15’W & 27°15’N today that continues to move slowly north/northwestward. As this feature continues to move northward, it continues to pull cooler (76.0°F) coastal water from the Nunjack Cay area east/northeastward towards the Great Abaco Canyon that is meeting the blue (76.5°F) Gulf Stream water. The boundaries of these water masses were seen over the northwestern Double Dips area again today creating favorable, yet different ocean conditions for six consecutive days near 77°21-22’W & 27°03’N suggesting that good chances for tuna, dolphin, and marlin occur. Eastward, we have seen a weak (0.2-0.3°F) warmer to cooler water mass boundary for two days now over the Great Abaco Canyon area (77°00’W & 27°07’N) suggesting that some marlin action may happen with additional chances for action occurring further eastward over the 1000 fathom northern wall of the canyon where we observed the leading edge of the warmer (77.2°F) dark blue water from the Eleuthera area today near 76°51’W & 27°10’N. Northeastward, we have seen the same favorable ocean conditions for NINE CONSECUTIVE DAYS NOW suggesting that excellent chances for marlin action occur over the 800-1000 fathom depths near 76°38’W & 27°33-34’N.
We continue to observe weak sst° boundaries from the areas of Great Guana Cay and Man of War Cay offshore to the Bridge area, we did observe a favorable northwestward current of the warmer (76.5°F) water over the 100 fathom ledge near 77°01’W & 26°41’N. Eastward, we have observed favorable ocean conditions for six to five consecutive days now into the cooler (76.3°F-76.0°F) blended blue water from the tip of the Bridge near 76°49-50’W & 26°41’N eastward to 76°42’W & 26°41-42’N. Eastward, we observed the cooler (75°F) pool of water over the Mushroom and Jurassic Park areas again today and while we have observed changing ocean conditions over these areas, some increased chances for fishing action may also occur over both the northern (76°34’W & 27°00’N) and southern (76°36’W & 26°37’N) portions of the Jurassic Park. We continue to observe the flow of the majority of the water masses in this area as north/northwestward.
East of Abaco we observed a second eddy today centered near 76°40’W & 26°05’N that continues to circulate warmer (77.2°F) dark blue water originating from the Eleuthera area. The westward flow of this dark blue Eleuthera “:marlin” water creates two areas that provide good chances for tuna, dolphin, and marlin action. Good chances for fishing action occur where we have observed these conditions for three days now from the area of the North Bar near 76°55’W & 26°19’N northeastward to the northern portions of the Wonderland where we have observed these conditions for the first time today near 76°46’W & 26°28-29’N with additional good chances for action occurring from the Hole in the Wall area (77°03’W & 25°51’N) southwestward to the 1000 fathom curve (77°07-08’W & 25°46’N) where we have also observed these conditions for three days now. North of Eleuthera, we continue to observe an eastward flow of the water masses due to the influence of the eddy centered near 76°40’W & 26°05’N; however, we have observed favorable ocean conditions for six and seven days respectively now off of the Bridge Point area near 76°49’W & 25°42’N and 76°33-34’W & 25°40’N suggesting that good to excellent chances for marlin action continue to occur.
Please remember to call us while fishing (between 10:30 a.m. And NOON) so we can provide a free verbal update on the changes in the ocean conditions. SPRING OFFICE HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., SATURDAY starting May 8th.
