ROFFS™ FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS
FOR THE BERRY ISLANDS AREA (LAT./LONG. ONLY)
SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot spots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location.
We were able to see the ocean conditions in this area clearly again today and we have been able to follow the overall ocean circulation in this area well all week now.  We continue to follow the north/northwestern progression of the dark blue “Eleuthera” water towards Abaco that has an estimated morning sst° of 76.3°F-76.1°F. The western side of the Eleuthera water continues to move south/southwestward between the North Bar area and the 1000 fathom curve offshore of the Cherokee Sound area suggesting that your chances for fishing action are likely to be increased from 76°57’W & 26°21’N and 76°58-59’W & 26°17-18’N (two days favorable) to 77°05-06’W & 26°05’N.  Eastward, we observed the center of the counter-clockwise rotating eddy near 76°45’W & 26°07’N this afternoon; however, we would not be surprised if this feature changed shape overnight.  If it does continue its slow northwestward motion over the next 12-18 hours, some increased chances for fishing action are likely to occur over the good bottom of the Wonderland near 76°47’W & 26°21-22’N and westward where we have observed favorable, yet different ocean conditions for three days now over the good bottom of the North Bar near 76°53’W & 26°21’N.
The motion of the eddy northeast of the Hole in the Wall area continues to pull water over the ledges in the Egg Reef/Dutch Bar area suggesting that relatively good chances for fishing action occur where we have observed favorable ocean conditions for three days now near 76°46-47’W & 25°40’N and 76°51-52’W & 25°37’N.  We continue to be uncertain as to which of theses areas are likely to provide better fishing action; however, if you do not wish to travel this far southward, good chances for action also occur in the area of the Hole in the Wall near 77°06’W & 25°51’N where we have observed the western edge of the “Eleuthera” water for two days now.
Towards the Nassau area the majority of the water masses appear to be moving in a northwestward direction.  Some increased chances for fishing action are likely to occur where we observed a 0.8°F water mass boundary over the 100-1000 fathom ledge northeast of Nassau particularly near 77°21-22’W & 25°12’N and 77°03-04’W & 25°13-14’N.  West of Nassau towards the area of Clifton Point your chances for fishing action are also likely to be increased where we observed a stronger 1.4°F water mass boundary over the 100-1000 fathom ledges from 77°32’W & 25°00’N to 77°35’W & 25°06-07’N and also northeastward over the 1000 fathom ledge near 77°32’W & 25°10’N.
South of Grand Bahama Island we continue to observe the counter-clockwise rotating eddy centered near 78°10’W & 26°15’N.  This feature continues to pull relatively warmer (78.2°F) blue water east/northeastward towards it and some of this blue water appears to have begun to drift slightly southeastward creating favorable conditions for finding concentrations of fish where we have observed favorable ocean conditions for two days now over the 1000 fathom curve near 77°38’W & 25°39-40’N and over the 10-100 fathom ledge near 77°45’W & 25°40’N.  East/northeastward, additional chances for action occur where we have observed the eastern edge of the 76.1°F water being pulled towards the eddy for two to four days now over the 1000-1100 fathom ledge from 77°30’W & 25°35’N to 77°31-32’W & 25°45-46’N and also northward near 77°35-36’W & 26°01-02’N.
