ROFFS™ FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS FOR THE BIMINI AREA
SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot dots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location.
Like yesterday we were able to see the conditions very clearly early this morning and continued to observe the stable ocean conditions as the day continued. The estimated morning sst of the Gulf Stream is 77.5°F. The eastern boundary of the Gulf Stream remains very close to the island chain over depths as least as shallow as 10 fathoms. We sometimes observe a meandering of this boundary but for the last two days it remains pushed along the coastlines from below Orange Cay to North Bimini. Based on the location and push of the Gulf Stream your chances for action is likely to be best as close to the island chain 10-100 fathom depths particularly off Gun Cay (79°18'W & 25°35'N to Ocean Cay (near 79°15'W & 25°25'N). Additional favorable conditions that we have also seen for the past two days occurs over the 10-100 fathom ledges between South Bimini and North Bimini (79°18'W & 25°43'N) and also over 140-100 fathom depths off Moselle Shoal (near 79°17'W & 25°52'N. There are no strong oceanographic indicators suggesting which of these areas will provide the best fishing action.
North of North Bimini the eastern boundary of the main current is over the 100 fathom curve. Northeast of the Gingerbread Grounds (south of Freeport/Lucaya) there is a counterclockwise rotating eddy centered east of this chart area near 78°30'W & 26°15'N. This eddy is pulling the Gulf Stream southeastward from East Brother toward the Berry Islands. The northern boundary of the Gulf Stream water is over the Four Tops area (near 78°52'W & 26°07'N) suggesting that relatively good chances for fishing action occurs. Additional favorable conditions, although not over good bottom structure, has been seen again northwest near 78°58'W & 26°20'N suggesting that some fishing action is likely.
There is a Gulf Stream eddy along the western side of the Gulf Stream northwest of Bimini with sst of 76.5°F. By Wednesday morning this feature will be north of this area and we do not expect any increases in fishing action related to this feature.
Please remember to call us while fishing (between 10:30 a.m. and noon) so we can provide a free verbal update. Thank you for not sharing this analysis with non-paying fishermen. We survive on your honesty. Spring office hours: Mon. - Fri. 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Sometimes later as conditions demand). May 02, 2005 Summer hours: Mon. - Fri. 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Sunday Tournaments only that start on Monday.
