ROFFS FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS FOR THE CAPE FEAR INSHORE AREA (LAT./LONG.)
SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot dots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location. Afternoon sst° are likely to be 1°F - 2°F warmer than those shown here. Bottom depths in fathoms (1 fathom is approximately 6 feet).
We were able to see this area relatively clearly today. We have now seen this area relatively clearly for two consecutive days to provide your relatively better chances for kingfish action. There have been reports of good kingfish action in the Inlet areas last weekend. Overall, you will find your relatively better chances for kingfish action along the indicated water mass boundaries over good bottom. Also, if the winds remain relatively weak the current favorable conditions for kingfish action will improve over the next 24-48 hours. Be advised that we had some trouble calibrating today’s satellite imagery. There was a significant amount of burn and atmospheric interference with the afternoon satellite imagery. So remember to look for relative temperature breaks rather than absolute temperature breaks.
Bogue Inlet to Cape Fear: Your relatively better chances for kingfish action occurs along the 1.0°F: 81.6°F – 82.6°F water mass boundary off of Bogue Inlet over the Obstruction near 77°01’W & 34°36’N and east along the same water mass boundary to offshore of New River Inlet over the five fathom contour near 77°20’W & 34°28’N and buoy area near 77°25°W & 34°24’N where conditions have been favorable for two consecutive days. Further southwest along this same water mass boundary you will increase your chances for kingfish action over the 10 fathom contour east of Cape Fear near 77°38’W & 34°05’N, south to near 77°44’W & 33°47’N where conditions have also been favorable for two consecutive days. Offshore, the relatively better chances for fishing action occurs along the blue-green to blended blue water mass boundary (0.9°F: 82.6°F – 81.7°F) where conditions have been favorable for two consecutive days over the Wrecks off of Bogue Inlet near 76°56’W & 34°31’N and southwest along this water mass boundary over the 10 fathom curve offshore of New Topsail Inlet (near 77°28’W & 34°17’N) to over the Fish Haven offshore of Carolina Beach Inlet (near 77°32’W & 33°57’N). Inshore along the relatively cooler to warmer (1.1°F: 80.5°F – 81.6°F) water mass boundary you will increase your chances for kingfish action just offshore of Masonboro Inlet over the Obstructions near 77°45’W & 34°05-14’N where conditions have been favorable for two consecutive days. The only other relatively better conditions for kingfish action will occur where the water mass boundaries are tighter (81.7°F – 82,6°F – 81.6°F) over the Wreck offshore of Cape Fear near 77°28’W & 33°36’N where conditions have been favorable for two consecutive days. Also, offshore of Cape Fear you will increase your chances for kingfish action where the water mass boundaries are tighter (82.6°F – 81.6°F – 82.6°F) over the 10 fathom contour near 77°46’W & 33°45’N. Offshore, you will increase your chances for a combination of kingfish, tuna, dolphin, and wahoo along the relatively cooler to warmer water mass boundary (1.4°F: 81.7°F – 83.0°F) from near 77°15’W & 33°28’N northeast to near 76°29”W & 33°55’N.
Frying Pan Shoals to Hog Inlet: Offshore of the Southport area relatively good chances for kingfish action occur where we observed the southwestern edge of the relatively warmer (84.2°F) green coastal water for two days now over the good bottom of the wrecks and the Frying Pan Shoals near 78°06’W & 83°51’N, 78°04’W & 33°48’N, and 77°56’W & 33°46-47’N. Southward, additional chances for kingfish action occur where we have observed a 0.9°F warmer to cooler water mass boundary into the relatively cleaner (82.6°F) blue-green water over the 10 fathom curve near 77°57’W & 33°36’N and the good bottom of the wreck near 77°55’W & 33°33’N. Eastward, good chances for fishing action occur along the edges of the cooler (80.1°F) green water moving in an offshore direction from the Frying Pan Shoals area towards the Gulf Stream where we have observed favorable ocean conditions for two days now over the 10 fathom curve near 77°38-39’W & 33°37’N AND 77°42-43’W & 33°32’N with similar chances for action occurring east/northeastward where the edge of the green (81.6°F) water meets the relatively warmer (82.6°F) water over the good bottom of the wreck near 77°28’W & 33°36’N and northwestward over the 10 fathom curve near 77°45’W & 33°47’N and 77°44’W & 33°55’N.
Westward, towards the area offshore of Little River Inlet, relatively good chances for kingfish action occur along the southern edge of the relatively warmer (84.2°F) green coastal water where it meets the northern edge of the cooler (83.5°F-82.6°F) cleaner blue-green water and the ocean conditions have remained favorable for two days now over the good bottom topography near 78°30’W & 33°48’N and 78°21-22’W & 33°50’N. If fishing action Is not satisfactory in these areas, additional good chances for kingfish action occur where we have observed favorable ocean conditions for two days now over the 10 fathom curve near 78°17’W & 33°38-39’N, 78°23-24’W & 33°38’N, and 78°27’W & 33°35’N and perhaps offshore over the good bottom of the Fish Haven near 78°24’W & 33°21’N.
Please remember to call us while fishing (between 10:30 a.m. and noon) so we can provide a free verbal update. Thank you for not sharing this analysis with non-paying fishermen. We survive on your honesty. Summer Hours: Mon-Fri 8:30 AM - 9:00PM. We are open Saturdays 9:00AM-6:00PM (sometimes we close early based on demand and clouds).
