ROFFS FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS
FOR THE CHATHAM AREA (LAT./LONG.)
SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot spots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location. Afternoon sst° are likely to be 1°F-2°F warmer than those sst° shown here for the early morning. Chlorophyll/ocean color boundaries are indicated with dotted lines and SST boundaries with solid lines.
We are able to observe the ocean conditions relatively clearly today using early morning imagery around (2-4am for tidal purposes). Overall, we are able to observe the southward flow of warmer 61.4°F-63.8°F water over the 50-100 fathom curves east of Nausset Beach to over the northern tip of Davis Bank before turning offshore. We believe your better chances for bluefin and shark action will occur along the edges of this warmer water where it forms strong boundaries with the cooler tidal waters (50°F-59°F) over the 50 fathom curve and over the good bottom of Davis Bank. Further offshore, we are able to observe a warmer pool of 64.8°F water over the 100 fathom curve that should also provide increased chances for bluefin and mako action where favorable conditions have remained stable over the good bottom of the Torpedoes and over the Lumps.
With this in mind, the ocean conditions suggest increased chances for fishing action with bluefin and shark action will occur along the strong 61.4°F-63.8°F boundary zone northeast of Cape Cod where it lies over the 100 fathom curve from near 69°55’W & 42°25’N south to near 69°50’W & 42°12’N to near 69°35’W & 41°52’N. Closer inshore, increased chances for action may also occur over the 50 fathom curve near 69°48’W & 41°55’N where a weaker pool of 63°F water has pushed over the 50 fathom curve. As you continue further offshore, good chances for fishing action with bluefin and mako action will occur along the northern edge of the pool of warmer 64.8°F water where it has remained stable for the past two days over the good bottom of the Torpedo near 69°08’W & 42°15’N, as well as, east of the Torpedo over the good bottom of the Lumps from near 68°55’W & 42°16’N southwest to near 68°44’W & 42°08’N.
Offshore of Chatham, good chances for fishing action with tuna and shark will occur where the warmer 61.4°F water meets the cooler 57.0°F tidal water over the 20-30 fathom curves of Davis Bank near 69°35’W & 41°35’N, 69°28’W & 41°30’N, 69°17’W & 41°20’N and 69°08’W & 41°13’N. Further offshore, additional chances for fishing action will also occur along the strong warmer to cooler 61.4°F-55.6°F boundary zone as it continues to push southeastward over the 40 fathom ledge from near 68°53’W & 41°07’N north to near 68°35’W & 41°22’N.
