ROFFS FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS FOR THE ELEUTHERA AREA OFFSHORE
SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot dots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location. Afternoon sst are likely to be 1°F - 2°F warmer than those shown here. Chlorophyll boundaries are indicated with dotted lines and SST boundaries with solid lines.
We were able to see the ocean conditions much better today than yesterday and have observed some changes in the circulation that are favorable. The blue “marlin” water from Eleuthera (78.0°F - 77.0°F) is moving more northward and today we have seen that has moved more northwestward. This is due in part to the counter-clockwise rotation of the pool of 76.7°F water north of Eleuthera, as well as, due to an eddy northeast of Abaco. This suggests that more marlin will be moving toward Abaco. The southern boundary of this 76.7°F water has created favorable conditions for the last three days over Bridge Point (near 76°36’W & 25°36’N) and James Point (76°18’W & 25°22’N) suggesting that good chances for good marlin action occurs. These two areas provide the best chances for good marlin fishing in the northern part of this chart area. Additional action is likely over Dutch Bar 1000 fathom ledge (near 76°48’W & 25°40’N) and offshore of James Point near 76°03’W & 25°20’N. While not as favorable, the western and northern boundary of this water mass is also expected to provide fishing action, particularly northeast of Hole In The Wall near 76°50’W & 26°00’N (two consecutive days favorable), but also southeast of Wonderland near 76°45’W & 26°12’N to 76°30’W & 26°22’N. South of Abaco we have seen the same water mass boundary the last three days suggesting that good chances for fishing action occurs from the 500-1000 fathom curve (77°12-13’W & 25°51-47’N), as well as, over the Twin Peaks (near 77°14’W & 25°42’N).
Between Eleuthera and Cat Island the conditions are not as favorable since the blue “marlin” water current is absent. However, off the Columbus Point on the southeast side of Cat Island we have seen the dark blue “marlin” water over the 100-1000 fathom ledges for the past three days suggesting that good chances for good action occurs near 75°15’W & 24°12’N. Additional action is likely along the boundary zone between the water shown with sst of 76.5°F and 78.0°F.
In Exuma Sound we continue to have problems with clouds, haze and weak water mass boundaries. However, there is some indication of a water mass boundary along the south side of Eleuthera that may increase your chances for action near 76°14’W & 24°37’N and 76°05’W & 24°40’N.
