Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot dots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location. Afternoon sst° are likely to be 1°F - 2°F warmer than those shown here. Bottom depths in fathoms (1 fathom is approximately 6 feet).
We were able to see the ocean conditions in this area clearly today to provide you with the more favorable for tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and marlin action. East of 92°20 we have seen the ocean conditions for two to five consecutive days now to provide you with the relatively better conditions for fishing action. There is an eddy located well southeast of Green Canyon that is pushing water in a favorable inshore direction for fishing action in the Green Canyon area for some of the best fishing action conditions in the area, especially where conditions have been favorable for FIVE consecutive days. . Keep in mind that it is the time of year where many of the water mass boundaries are relatively weak and appear blended. This suggests that the water color changes (greener to bluer) are just as important if not more important than the sst° water mass boundaries over good bottom.
John’s Hole to Bullwinkle: The ocean conditions suggest that the more favorable conditions for fishing action (especially marlin) occurs offshore in the above mentioned Green Canyon area along the 82.1°F – 82.5°F, 82.1°F – 82.3°F, and 82.1°F – 82.3°F water mass boundaries. These more favorable conditions for fishing action starts over the 400 fathom ledge west of Green Canyon where conditions have been favorable for two days near 91°03’W & 27°40’N extending east along this same water mass boundary (82.5°F – 82.1°F) to over Green Canyon near 90°55’W & 27°41’N to over the 400 fathom ledge where conditions have been favorable for FIVE consecutive days near 90°40-41’W & 27°40-41’N. Further offshore equally if not better conditions for fishing action occur where conditions have been favorable for FIVE days along the 82.1°F – 82.3°F water mass boundary from over the 500 fathom ledge near 91°03-04’W & 27°35-36’N extending east along this same water mass boundary to over the 500 fathom ledges near 90°40-42’W & 27°37-38’N.
Further west in the mid-section (and inshore) of the chart area, you will increase your chances for fishing action along the 82.5°F – 82.1°F water mass boundary especially where conditions have been favorable for two consecutive days starting north of Bullwinkle Rig over the 100 fathom ledge near 90°53-55’W & 28°02-03’N extending west along this same water mass boundary to over the southern section of the 29 fathom Banks near 91°03’W & 28°03-04’N extending further west to over the good bottom near 91°20-25’W & 28°05-06’N. Along this same water mass boundary (82.5°F – 82.1°F) you will increase your chances for fishing action extending offshore and southwestward starting over the 100 fathom ledge where the water appears to be moving in a favorable inshore direction near 91°40’W & 28°00’N extending to over the 100 fathom ledges near 91°40’W & 27°40’N and extending further southwest along the same water mass boundary to where the water appears to be flowing in an unfavorable offshore direction over the 200, 300, 400, and 500 fathom ledges to near 92°17-18’W & 27°35’N. Additional favorable conditions occur west along the same 82.1°F – 82.5°F water mass boundary to where the water again appears to be flowing inshore over the 200-300 fathom ledges from near 91°45’W & 27°47’N extending east toward Bullwinkle Rig near 91°04’W & 27°52-53’N.
Flower Gardens to John’s Hole: The more favorable conditions in this area appear to be along the greener to bluer water mass boundaries (81.9°F – 82.1°F and 82.5°F) offshore of the Flower Gardens area over the 500 fathom ledge near 92°42-43’W & 27°28’N extending west along the 81.9°F – 82.1°F water mass boundary to over the 300f fathom ledge near 93°15-16’W & 27°30’N. Further offshore you will increase your chances for fishing action along this 82.1°F – 82.5°F water mass boundary starting over the 500 fathom ledge in the east near 92°45-46’W & 27°22-23’N extending west along this same water mass boundary to over the 400 fathom ledges near 93°26-28’W & 27°25-26’N. The remaining favorable conditions will only increase your chances for fishing action if the water mass boundaries remain stable for the next 12-24 hours.
