ROFFS FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS FOR THE GEORGETOWN TO CAPE FEAR INSHORE (LAT./LONG.)
SAMPLE***SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE*****SAMPLE
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot dots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location. Afternoon sst° are likely to be 1°F - 2°F warmer than those shown here. Bottom depths in fathoms (1 fathom is approximately 6 feet).
We were able to see this area clearly today. However, this area has been cloudy during the previous four days. Without the availability of clear imagery in this area during the previous 24-48 hours we cannot distinguish which of the indicated hot spot areas will provide the best chances for finding kingfish action. We need to see the ocean conditions for two to three days in order to determine which of these conditions are better. The ocean conditions suggest that the majority of the relatively better chances for kingfish action will remain along the 10 fathom contour and inshore.
Singleton Swash to Georgetown: You will increase your chances for kingfish action starting offshore of Murphy Island along the green water mass boundaries (1.0°F: 79.0°F – 80.0°F – 79.0°F) over the three fathom contour (near 79°10’W & 33°04’N) extending north along these water mass boundaries over the East Bank (near 79°06’W & 33°10’N), good bottom (including Obstructed Fish Havens), and five fathom contour to offshore of Murrells Inlet (near 78°56’W & 33°31’N). Slightly offshore you will increase your chances for kingfish action along the green to blue-green water mass boundary (0.9°F: 79.0°F – 78.1°F) starting offshore of South Island over the 10 fathom contour (near 79°05’W & 33°00’N) extending north and east along this water mass boundary over where it crosses the 10 fathom contour depths to near 78°31’W & 33°35’N. Favorable conditions for kingfish action occurs along the blue-green to blended blue (0.6°F: 78.1°F – 77.5°F) water mass boundary over the 10 fathom contour (near 78°38’W & 33°16’N) and east over the Obstructed Fish Haven near 78°24’W & 33°21’N. If you want to venture offshore there is a favorable area over the Submerged Pipe along the 1.0°F: 78.1°F – 79.1°F water mass boundary near 78°46’W & 29°09’N.
Frying Pan Shoals to White Point Swash: Increased chances for kingfish action occur over the five fathom contour offshore of Carolina Beach Inlet (near 77°50’W & 33°57’N and south near 77°54”W & 33°57’N). Just offshore of Cape Fear you will increase your chances for kingfish action along the 0.6°F: 78.0°F – 77.4°F water mass boundary over the five fathom contour near 77°52’W & 33°50’N and northeast over the Fish Haven near 77°40’W & 33°58’N. You will increase your chances for kingfish action inshore along the green 1.0°F: 81.0°F – 80.0°F water mass boundary over the five fathom contour and good bottom from offshore of Oak Island (near 78°02’W & 33°50’N) west to over the five fathom contour offshore of Hog Inlet near 78°31’W & 33°50’N. Slightly offshore along the relatively warmer to cooler water mass boundary (1.0°F: 79.0°F – 78.0°F) you will increase your kingfish action over the good bottom and over the Dump Site (near 78°00’W & 33°47’N) east over good bottom to over the Fish Haven near (78°27’W & 33°44’N). There is also favorable conditions for kingfish action along the green to blue-green water mass boundary (0.6°F: 78.0°F – 77.4°F) starting over the three to five fathom contour (near 77°58’W & 33°44’N) northwest along this water mass boundary over the 10 fathom contours near 78°05’W & 33°35’N and 78°22’W & 33°37’N. Further offshore, there is an area over Frying Pan Horn along the 0.6°F: 77.4°F – 78.0°F water mass boundary near 77°31’W & 33°29’N that will increase your chances for kingfish action. You will find better kingfish action along the current hot spots if these water mass boundaries remain relatively stable during the next 24-48 hours.
Please remember to call us while fishing (between 10:30 a.m. and noon) so we can provide a free verbal update. Thank you for not sharing this analysis with non-paying fishermen. We survive on your honesty. Summer Hours: Mon-Fri 8:30 AM - 9:00PM. We are open Saturdays 9:00AM-6:00PM (sometimes we close early based on demand and clouds). We are closed Monday, July 4th for the observance of Independence Day.
