ROFFS FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS
FOR THE GEORGETOWN TO FERNANDINA AREA (LAT./LONG.)
SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot spots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map,  search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location.

We were able to see the ocean conditions in this area clearly again today and we have been able to follow the overall ocean circulation rather well all week. Due to clear skies, calm winds, and hot afternoon air temperatures, the sst° you find while out on the water during the afternoon hours area likely to be 2°F-3°F WARMER than what we have shown here.  It is important to look for relative rather than absolute sst° while out on the water – especially during the afternoon hours.  Overall, we continue to observe four eddy features influencing the ocean conditions in this area.  Three of the eddies are centered east of the area of the Georgetown Hole near 77°57’W & 32°30’N, 78°20’W & 32°25’N, and 78°30’W & 32°20’N respectively that continue to push the north/northwestern edges of the relatively warmer (75.3°F-76.7°F-77.2°F) blue water northward over the good bottom areas of the Georgetown Hole to the Sanctuary although this motion appears to have significantly slowed today due to the mass and momentum of the large finger of blue (76.3°F-77.2°F-77.7°F) water drifting southwestward from the Steeples area northwest of the chart area towards the Sanctuary due to another eddy which is centered northeast of the chart area. The fourth eddy was centered east of the Triple Ledge area near 79°43’W & 31°15’N and it is not likely to have a strong effect on the location of the western edge of the main body of the Gulf Stream over the next 12-18 hours as it is likely to blend with the surrounding waters as it progresses north/northeastward.

CHARLESTON: East of the Edisto Banks area relatively good chances for fishing action occur where we have observed the western edge of the finger of blue (77.2°F) water for two to four days now over the 35-50 fahtom depths from 79°26’W & 31°54’N to 79°14’W & 32°07’N with additional chances for action occurring north/northeastward where we expect you will find similar ocean conditions by fishing time early tomorrow morning as the northwestern edge of this finger is pushed northwestward from the 50 fahtom curve near 79°06’W & 32°14’N to the 100 fahtom curve near 78°51’W & 32°19’N (two days favorable) and perhaps further northeastward to the northern edge of the Bubble Rock near 78°30’W & 31°30’N.  Continuing southeastward, relatively better chances for a combination of tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and billfish action occur where we have observed favorable ocean conditions for two to five days now along the warmer to cooler water mass boundary of the southern eddy of the three over the 100 fahtom ledge from 79°14’W & 31°55’N to 79°00’W & 32°08-09’N northeastward to the good bottom of the 380 Hole near 78°53-54’W & 32°12’N and perhaps further northeastward over the good bottom of the Big Ammo Dump near 78°47’W & 32°15’N and 78°37’W & 32°20’N.  Towards the Georgetown Hole area that majority of the water appears to be moving in an unfavorable offshore direction suggesting overall slow and scattered fishing action; however, we did continue to observe the northern edge of a finger of blue (76.7°F) water that is likely to continue to move northward and is likely to occur over the 50-100 fahtom depths west of the Georgetown Hole by fishing time early tomorrow morning suggesting that good chances for action are likely to occur where we have observed favorable, yet different ocean conditions for three and four days respectively near 78°45’W & 32°30’N and 78°38’W & 32°30’N.  Northward, we observed another finger of blue (76.9°F) water that may also provide some scattered chances for fishing action along its northern edge over the 20-40 fahtom depths with relatively better chances for action occurring southeastward (offshore) where we have observed it for two days now over the 100 fahtom curve in the area of the Sanctuary near 78°17’W & 32°38-39’N.

SAVANNAH:  East/northeast of the Deli area increased chances for fishing action occur where we observed the western edge of the blue (77.2°F) Gulf Stream water for the first time today over the 50-100 fahtom ledge from 79°47’W & 31°22’N to 79°36’W & 31°36’N to 79°28’W & 31°41-42’N.  Better chances for action occur southwestward where we have observed similar ocean conditions for four to five days now over the good bottom of the South Ledge and southwestward to the 25 fahtom depths from 79°51’W & 31°15’N to 80°01-02’W & 31°00’N.  If fishing action is not satisfactory in these areas, additional chances for a combination of tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and billfish action occur offshore over the 100 fahtom ledge east of the areas of the Deli and the South Ledge where we expect you will find the western edge of the dark blue (79.6°F) Gulf Stream water by fishing time tomorrow morning as the small eddy blends with the surrounding waters from 79°37’W & 31°25’N to 79°48-49’W & 31°07’N with relatively better chances for action occurring southwestward where we have observed similar ocean conditions for four days now over the 100 fahtom ledge near 79°55’W & 30°55’N and 80°00’W & 30°47’N.
Please remember to call us while fishing (between 10:30 AM and NOON) so we can provide a free verbal update.  Thank you for not sharing this analysis with non-paying fishermen.  We survive on your honesty. SUMMER office hours start May 2nd – Mon – Fri 8:30 am – 9:00 pm, Saturdays 9:00 am – 6:00 pm (sometimes earlier based on demand) Some Sundays based on tournament schedule.
