ROFFS FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS
FOR THE HUDSON CANYON TO BALTIMORE CANYON OFFSHORE AREAS (LAT./LONG.)
SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot spots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map,  search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location.

We are able to observe the ocean conditions in this area relatively clearly today using imagery from this morning and this afternoon. Overall, we continue to observe a clockwise rotation of water offshore of Hudson Canyon near 71°30’W & 39°15’N. The rotating pool of water is pulling warmer 67.6°F-69.6°F water over the 500-1000 fathom curves in Hudson Canyon providing good chances for tuna, shark and perhaps marlin action, especially where favorable conditions have remained for multiple days. Closer inshore, the rotation of the offshore pool of water has started to pull the warmer water along the 100 fathom curve on the eastern side of Hudson Canyon offshore. The offshore motion of this water suggests fishing action may decline along the eastern side over the next 24-48 hours. However, we continue to observe favorable conditions along the 100 fathom curve on the west and southern side of Hudson Canyon where the offshore clockwise rotation of water has kept the green blue green 61.6°F-63.6°F boundary zone relatively stable over the 100 fathom curve for up to six days providing your better chances for action. As you continue southward into Toms, Carteret, Lindenkohl, and Spencer Canyons, favorable conditions also continue to occur for 5-9 days over the 1000 fathom ledge where the green blue green to blue 62.6°F-64.7°F boundary zone extends southward and then offshore between Spencer and Wilmington Canyons due to another counter clockwise rotation of blue water centered near 72°30’W & 38°00’N. The ocean conditions in Wilmington and Baltimore Canyons appear to be declining as filaments of blue 66.7°F-67.6°F water are getting pulled in an offshore direction. Offshore motion of the water combined with unstable and blending ocean conditions suggest slow and scattered fishing action will occur. However, we are able to observe different locations along the 500 and 1000 fathom curves that have favorable, but different, conditions for multiple days improving your chances for fishing action.
With this in mind, the ocean condition in Hudson Canyon suggest your better chances for fishing action with tuna, shark and perhaps marlin will occur along the blue green to blue 62.6°F-65.7°F boundary zone along the 100 fathom curve on the western side where favorable conditions have remained stable for up to six days from near 72°20’W & 39°20’N southward to near 72°30’W & 39°13’N to near 72°37’W & 39°09’N in Toms Canyon. Favorable conditions have also remained stable over the 100 fathom curve within Hudson Canyon for 4-6 days providing action near 72°22’W & 39°30’N and 72°17’W & 39°32’N. Although the water along the eastern side of Hudson Canyon is starting to pull offshore due to the clockwise rotation of water, good chances for action will occur over 500-1000 fathom depths where favorable conditions have also remained for up to four days near 72°01’W & 39°23’N and 72°02’W & 39°17’N, as well as near 71°56’W & 39°16’N. Additional chances for fishing action will occur over the 500 fathom curve between Hudson and Toms Canyons where favorable conditions exist from near 72°20’W & 39°07’N southward to near 72°31’W & 39°02’N. Closer inshore, increased chances for tuna and shark action may occur along the 62.6°F-61.6°F boundary zone where it lies over the good bottom of Chicken Canyon near 73°01’W & 39°49’N, 72°54’W & 39°15’N, and southward along the 20 fathom curve over the Triple Wrecks near 73°02’W & 39°31’N and 73°10’W & 39°26’N. From Carteret to Spencer Canyons, the ocean conditions suggest your better chances for action will occur along the 62.6°F-63.6°F-64.7°F boundary zone where it lies over the 500 and 1000 fathom curves and where favorable conditions have also remained stable between 5-9 days near 72°45’W & 38°47’N, 72°52’W & 38°43’N, 72°57’W & 38°36’N, 73°03’W & 38°30’N and near 73°07’W & 38°26’N.
The blending and unstable ocean conditions in Wilmington and Baltimore Canyons suggest slow and scattered fishing action may occur. However, the presence of blue 65.7°F water over the 500 fathom curve for up to 5 days will provide increased chances for action in Wilmington Canyon near 73°34’W & 38°15’N, and in Baltimore Canyon near 73°43’W & 38°00’N and 73°50’W & 37°59’N. Further offshore, good chances for action may also occur where favorable conditions have remained for 4 days over the 1000 fathom curve between both canyons near 73°28’W & 38°03’N and 73°29’W & 38°00’N. On your way out to the blue 65.7°F water, increased chances for action may occur over the 100 fathom curve (500 fathom tip) of Wilmington Canyon near 73°30’W & 38°22’N and 73°34’W & 38°22’N, and inshore of Baltimore Canyon where favorable conditions exist over 50 fathoms near 73°59’W & 38°10’N and 74°08’W & 38°00’N.
