ROFFS FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS FOR THE KEY LARGO to SUGARLOAF OFFSHORE AREA (LAT./LONG.)
SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot spots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map,  search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location.

We were able to see the ocean conditions in this area clearly this morning and this afternoon.  We have been able to follow the overall ocean circulation rather well in this area for two days now and the areas where the ocean conditions have remained favorable for two days now are likely to provide your relatively better chances for fishing action.  Due to cooler nighttime air temperatures over the past week or so, it appears as if the overall sst° in this area have declined on the order of 2°F in this area and the morning sst° of the main body of the Gulf Stream is 79.1°-79.4°F.  Offshore, the ocean conditions appear to be unstable and changing in this area and the main body of the Gulf Stream continues to occur well offshore of the 100 fathom curve throughout this area.  Overall, we observed four rapidly moving Gulf Stream eddy features in this area that we located near 81°15’W & 24°15’N, 80°36’W & 24°18-19’N, 80°18’W & 24°39’N, and 80°03’W & 24°40’N respectively this afternoon.

With this in mind, some increased chances for tuna, wahoo, dolphin, sailfish, and kingfish action may occur on your way offshore where we observed a strong 0.8°F cooler to warmer green to blue water mass boundary over the 10-20 fathom ledge from 80°19’W & 25°04-05’N to 80°26’W & 24°58’N with better chances for action (two days favorable) occurring southwestward offshore of the Fiesta Key area from 80°41-42’W & 24°48-49’N to 81°02’W & 24°38-39’N.  Southeastward, relatively good chances for fishing action occur where we observed the northwestern edge of a pool of blue (77.0°F) Gulf Stream water pushing in a west/southwestward direction over the 50-100 fathom ledge from 80°15’W & 25°03’N to 80°24-25’W & 24°55’N and southwestward (southwest of Islamorada) from 80°35’W & 24°48’N to 80°46’W & 24°43’N to 80°51’W & 24°38’N.  Offshore, increased chances for fishing action are also likely to happen where we expect you will find the warmer to cooler water mass boundary of one of the eddy features by fishing time early tomorrow morning from the good bottom of the Islamorada Humps and southeastward towards the 200-300 fathom ledge from 80°33’W & 24°43’N to 80°26’W & 24°45’N to 80°12’W & 24°46’N.  If fishing action is not satisfactory in these areas, increased chances for a combination of tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and billfish action occur southward where we believe you will find the northern edge of the main body of the Gulf Stream (79.1°F) by early tomorrow morning as it is pushed in a favorable inshore direction from the 110 fathom depths offshore towards the 440 fathom depths from 80°45’W & 24°33’N to 80°24’W & 24°32’N to 80°03’W & 24°35’N.

We will be closed Thursday November 23 and Friday November 24, 2006 in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.  We will re-open Monday morning November 27, 2006.

Fall/Winter hours in effect Oct. 09, 2006: Mon. - Fri. 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, CLOSED Saturday.
