ROFFS FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS
FOR THE TAMPA OFFSHORE (LAT./LONG.)
SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot dots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location.

We were able to see the ocean conditions in this area clearly again today. We were able to see this area clearly for three consecutive days now to locate the relatively better conditions for inshore kingfish action (30-40 fathom ledges) and offshore for marlin, dolphin, wahoo, swordfish, and tuna action. The Loop Current (80.5°F – 81.0°F°) is well into the southwestern part of the chart area inshore over the 1500 -1000 fathom ledges. We expect the BEST offshore fishing action to occur along the edges of the Loop Current water especially where it is drifting in a favorable inshore direction and has been favorable for two days from near 85°10’W & 25°45’N extending southeast along this water mass boundary (81.0°F – 80.5°F – 78.2°F) to over the 1000 & 1500 fathom ledge near 84°48-54’W & 25°34’N extending south to near 84°35-42’W & 25°10’N. There is a counter-clockwise eddy centered near 85°05’W & 26°00’N that is pulling mixed Loop Current water (79.0°F) northward over the Steps area for your more favorable conditions for fishing action especially where conditions have been favorable for two and three consecutive days. Overall, the conditions have not changed much in the last 12-24 hours.

On your way offshore you may want to try for dolphin, kingfish, tuna, and wahoo action along the cooler to warmer water mass boundary (76.0°F – 77.5°F) starting over the 50 fathom ledge near 84°24-25’W & 27°45’N extending southeast to over the 30 fathom ledge near 83°50’W & 27°20’N.  Further south along this similar water mass boundary you will increase your chances for fishing action where conditions have been favorable for two days over the 40 fathom ledge along the 76.0°F – 77.5°F water mass boundary near 84°00’W & 27°14-15’N.  However, the relatively BETTER chances for offshore fishing action (including marlin) will occur along the cooler to warmer water mass boundaries (76.0°F & 77.6°F – 78.0°F & 79.0°F) where conditions have been favorable for three consecutive days.  These better conditions start over the 200 fathom ledge of the Steps area (near 84°45-47’W & 26°31-32’N) extending east and then south along this same water mass boundary to over the 100 fathom ledge near 84°20’W & 25°49’N.  Further offshore, equally as good conditions for fishing action will occur along the warmer to cooler water mass boundary (79.0°F – 77.5°F) starting over the 1500 fathom ledge (near 85°00’W & 26°28’N) extending southeast along this same water mass boundary where conditions have been favorable for three consecutive days over the Steps (near 84°47’W & 26°20’N) to over the 300-100 fathom ledges near 84°21-22’W & 25°24’N.   You will increase your chances for fishing action also where the eddy is pushing water (77.5°F) in a favorable direction over the 1500 fathom ledge near 84°55-56’W & 25°56’N – 26°06’N.  Additional GOOD conditions for offshore fishing action will occur where conditions have been stable for the last three days along the 1.0°F: 78.0°F – 79.0°F water mass boundary from over the 1000 fathom ledge (near 85°14’W & 27°28-29’N) extending inshore to over the 200 fathom ledge (near 84°50’W & 26°50-51’N).   On your way offshore, you may want to try fishing where the water appears to be moving in a favorable inshore direction where conditions have also been favorable for two days over the 100 fathom ledge along the 76.0°F – 78.0°F water mass boundary near 84°32’W & 26°53’N and south near 84°28’W & 26°45’N. As a last resort, inshore and south additional favorable conditions occur for dolphin, tuna, and wahoo action are likely along the warmer to slightly cooler water mass boundaries (78.0°F – 77.6°F and 78.3°F – 77.6°F) starting over the 40 fathom ledge near 83°46’W & 26°25’N extending south along this water mass boundary to over the 50 fathom ledge near 83°49’W & 26°15’N where conditions have been favorable for two days. The remaining favorable conditions will only increase your chances for fishing action if the water mass boundaries remain stable for the next 12-24 hours.
