ROFFS FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS FOR THE VEATCH TO POWELL CANYONS AREA (LAT./LONG.)
SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE*** SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot spots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location.
We are able to observe the ocean conditions relatively clearly in this area today using imagery from this morning and early this afternoon. Please keep in mind that afternoon heating may occur and the temperatures we are showing may be 1-2°F cooler than the actual temperatures. Overall, we continue to observe large amounts of blue 79.6°F-83.4°F Gulf Stream water pushing inshore and eastward over the 100-500 fathom curves of Veatch to Oceanographer Canyons providing good chances for fishing action with tuna, dolphin, and billfish, especially where favorable conditions have remained stable for multiple days.
With this in mind, the ocean conditions suggest good chances for fishing action with tuna, dolphin, and billfish will occur along the northern edges of the blue 79.6°F-80.6°F-81.3°F Gulf Stream water where favorable conditions have remained stable for between 4-11 days over the 100 fathom curve in Hydrographer Canyon near 69°12’W & 40°00’N, over the 500 fathom curve near 68°58’W & 39°59’N, and over the 1000 fathom curve from 69°03’W & 39°50’N to near 68°55’W & 39°34’N. Inshore of Veatch Canyon, good chances for fishing action will also occur along the edges of a cooler finger of blue 76.2-77.2°F Gulf Stream water as it moves inshore of 50 fathoms in Veatch Canyon and where favorable conditions have remained for multiple days near 69°42’W & 40°05’N, 69°30’W & 40°48’N, 69°22’W & 40°13’N and near 69°14’W & 40°50’N where conditions have remained for four days. As you continue east of Hydrographer Canyon, the northern edge of the blue 79.6°F-80.6°F Gulf Stream water starts to pull a bit offshore and occur over the 1000 fathom curve providing good chances for action where conditions have remained for the past week from near 68°07’W & 39°53’N to 68°30’W & 40°00’N, and towards Oceanographer Canyon near 68°15’W & 40°05’N and 67°42’W & 40°12’N. Good chances for fishing action will also occur along the green to blue 69.8°F-77.2°F boundary zone in Lydonia Canyon where it lies from near 67°53’W & 40°19’N to near 67°40’W & 40°17’N.
Further offshore, increased chances for fishing action may also occur along the northern edge of a warmer pool of 83.4°F Gulf Stream water where it lies offshore of the 1000 fathom curve from near 68°53’W & 39°36’N to near 68°23’W & 39°50’N to near 67°37’W & 39°55’N.
