ROFFS™ FISHERIES OCEANOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS FOR THE WALKER’S CAY AREA (LAT./LONG. ONLY)
SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE***SAMPLE
Based on a multiple factor analysis, the symbols (hot spot spots) mark the areas where bait concentrations are expected and where fishing action is expected to be better compared with other (non-marked) areas. These are not based on dock rumors or hearsay fishing reports. Fishing reports are stated as such. You should start fishing where you recognize other signs of good fishing conditions near these marked areas. It is very important to use your sea surface temperature (sst°) gauge to locate the boundaries of the water masses, which are outlined. Rather than trying to find water based on the absolute temperature values shown on the map, search for the relative change in sst where the water mass boundaries occur. Arrows indicate the main current direction. Numbers inside of the dots indicate the number of consecutive days that we have seen favorable conditions in that location.
We were able to see the ocean conditions in this area clearly today. Please keep in mind that we have used morning sst° here. Afternoon sst° are likely to be as much as 1°F WARMER than what we have shown here. Remember to look for relative rather than absolute sst° while out on the water. Overall, we observed two large-scale clockwise rotating eddy features influencing the ocean conditions in this area. The first eddy was centered north of the Walker’s Cay area near 78°40’W & 28°25’N and the second eddy was centered north of the Double Dips area near 77°20’W & 27°37’N. With this in mind, we observed the northern edge of the relatively warmer (79.1°F) water originating from the Gulf Stream meet the southern edge of the relatively cooler (78.4°F) for three days now suggesting that good chances for fishing action occur in the area of the good bottom of the Northwest Humps near 78°33-34’W & 27°30’N and 78°27-28’W & 27°28-29’N with similar chances for action occurring southeastward towards the areas of the Northeast Humps an the Fingers where the ocean conditions have also remained favorable for three days now over the 300-450 fathom depths from 78°12’W & 27°25-26’N to 77°52-53’W & 27°15-16’N. Some increased chances for action may also happen where we observed a 0.7°F water mass boundary for the first time today over the 10-100 fathom ledge in the Matanilla Reef area near 78°49’W & 27°24-25’N. North/northwestward, the northwestern eddy appears to be pulling cooler (76.3°F) dark blue water from northeast of the area towards the center of the eddy increasing your overall chances for fishing action where it meets the eastern edge of the dark blue (79.1°F) water. This suggests that relatively good chances for action occur where we observed the western edge of the relatively cooler (76.3°F) water meet the eastern edge of the relatively warmer (79.1°F) water for three days now over the 390-420 fathom depths particularly near 79°10’W & 28°04-05’N and 79°02’W & 27°55’N.
Southwestward, northwest of Grand Bahama Island good chances for tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and billfish action occur where we have observed the eastern edge of the dark blue (80.8°F-80.3°F) Gulf Stream water pushing in a favorable inshore direction for two days now over the 10-100 fathom ledge between Settlement Point and Memory Rock from 79°00-01’W & 26°42-43’N to 79°08’W & 27°02’N with additional increased chances for fishing action occurring further northwestward where we observed these conditions for the first time today over the 10-100 fathom ledge east of the good bottom of Casey’s Canyon near 79°10-11’W & 27°17-18’N. Further north/northeastward, we continue to observed the eastern edge of the blue (79.6°F-80.8°F) water pushing in an eastward direction that may provide some increased chances for fishing action where we believe you will find similar ocean conditions by fishing time tomorrow over the 250-400 fathom depths from 79°15-16’W & 27°35-36’N to 79°30’W & 28°01-02’N.
