| The summer of 2005 was an outstanding fishing year. I used Roffers on numerous occasions with great success. The Judy B was a brand new Viking 45 Open delivered in May. We caught fish every trip starting in June and ending in September. The high lites were two Marlin caught on two separate trips south of Newport, RI. The first was August 10th. We always had a Marlin rod out long on the center rigger. I looked back at the lure and saw a huge Marlin with three feet of tail fin out of the water just attacking the lure, After having at the lure for about a minute I dropped it back and the fish inhaled it. We had the fish alongside three times over 90 minutes. It was a scary situation in that the fish started jumping near the boat and at the end almost ended up in the boat, it was quite an experience, one that all will never forget. We estimated the weight at 800lbs and was caught south of the dump in 55 fathoms. The second Marlin came on September 9th. We headed out on a strong NW wind expecting it to die down in the afternoon. I know we had a Roffers for this trip, we header to a spot that was a classic Roffers location. If you have the chart look it up, it's a classic (Sept 3). Blue water was pushing up from Atlantis toward the Lanes and had been there for several days. There was a very well defined break on the charts with a number of days good fishing. My wife Judy was on this trip. She had a Blue Marlin attack the Marlin lure. The same thing happened, after about a minute we dropped it back and the fish took it. After about a 30 minute fight Judy had her first Blue, about 300lbs. In addition we had Marlin in the spread 7 trips in a row but didn't land those. Keep up the good work Fred Blount - "Judy B" |
