USING IMAGERY AND DATA FROM THE PAST 24 HOURS      

We are able to observe the ocean conditions surrounding the Rig-1 and Rig-2 work site today using high resolution infrared and MODIS chlorophyll satellite imagery over the past 24 hours.

Overall, the center of circulation of Eddy B-07 continues north of the Rig-1 and Rig-2 work sites and is now located along the Lesser Antilles island chain near 61°00’W & 12°30’N. The northward movement of this eddy away from the work sites suggests mild to moderate conditions are currently effecting the Rig-1 and Rig-2 with a relatively north northwestward direction of flow of currents with between 0.5-1.5 knot strengths. Keep in mind, that with a lack of a strong dominant ocean feature, there is a chance of mixing and blending of the water on the shelf suggesting possible sporadic and changing ocean conditions over the next 2-3 days primarily due to tidal influences.

East of the Rig-1 and Rig-2 work sites, eddy C-07 continues to move westward towards Trinidad over the weekend and has a current center of circulation near 56°30’W & 9°40’N. The western wall of C-07 is currently located approximately 170-190 miles east of the work sites from near 57°30’W & 10°30’N southward to near 57°35’W & 9°30’N to near 57°30’W & 8°30’N. We believe this eddy will continue towards the work sites at speeds ranging from 8-12 miles per day suggesting the western wall of Eddy C-07 is estimated to effect the work sites within 3 weeks.
