Daniel Gabriel Angelo Jean-Baptiste was born on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, in 1963. To date the Jean-Baptiste collection consists of limited edition mono prints hand painted on silk. Jean-Baptiste experiments with colour, light, and texture making each piece actually a one-of-a-kind treasure.

Jean-Baptiste and his brothers were schooled in the town of Soufriere, and spent each weekend and holiday in the tiny fishing village of Choiseul. Eager to set out for home, the brothers traveled the eight miles on foot, exploring the forest and hills, enjoying the sweetest mangoes as they curiously sought to find the fastest route home. Spare time was spent fishing with a homemade bamboo pole off the village's long wooden jetty, which gave Jean-Baptiste his first glimpses of the colourful creatures that inhabited the sea. The plants and the fish that intriged the young boy would later dominate his art. Childhood days were sweet , as sweet as the perfumed breezes of St.Lucia.
As a way to tame her young explorer, Jean-Baptiste's mother encouraged him to draw and paint. Soon the visitors to the island began to notice the little boy who had the gift of capturing the cobalt blue sea with his water colours . It was through these early youthful escapes that the artist in Jean-Baptiste began to evolve.

Life became quite different for Jean-Baptiste when he moved to Canada in 1978. Gone were the carefree days, but along came the benefits of a Canadian education and exposure to different art forms. Jean-Baptiste was introduced to silk painting during his eight years working in commercial art for a Toronto display company. In 1988 Jean-Baptiste began his own company, Cobalt Illustrations producing hand painted silk banners for shopping centers and real estate developers across Canada.

Jean-Baptiste and his family moved to St. Lucia in 1995. His work reflects the beauty of the island. His style is fresh, unique, and lures art collectors worldwide. His work is in the collections of South Africa's President, Nelson Mandela, Noble Laureate Derek Walcott, Four Star General Colin Powell,Singer/Song writer Paul Simon, CEO of Sandles Gordon Butch Stewart, and many other valued collectors.

To date Jean-Baptiste collection consists of limited edition mono prints hand painted on silk. Jean-Baptiste experiments with colour, light, and texture making each piece actually a one-of-a-kind treasure.

While in St. Lucia visitors can arrange a private studio showing at Jean-Baptiste's Cap Estate home.
