| WHY ROFFS© IS THE BEST | |||
| As more and more so-called "fish finding" services become available, choosing ROFFS© over the competition may be less of an obvious decision now, than it was when ROFFS© was the only choice out there. Today, there are a number of services, which will offer anything from simple sea surface temperature traces to very pretty color satellite images. However, ROFFS© is still the BEST and provides the most value for your money. | |||
| WHAT ROFFS© OFFERS | |||
|
EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Mitchell A. Roffer incorporated Roffer's Ocean Fishing Forecasting Service Inc. (ROFFS©) in 1987 after receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science where he studied the effects of the ocean environment on the distribution and catchability of tuna, billfish and other fish using oceanographic data derived in-situ (ships, buoys, etc.) and remotely using satellites. Since then, ROFFS© has employed only the top oceanography graduates, computer experts, and fishermen to conduct and improve the fishing oceanographic analyses.
TECHNIQUE: Providing comprehensive fishing forecasting analyses is an intensive process that requires expertise in a variety of scientific disciplines including fisheries biology, physical oceanography, satellite remote sensing, image analysis, and computer science to name a few. ROFFS© has developed advanced image analysis techniques, particularly when dealing with water motion and clouds. We are experts in understanding how ocean conditions affect the daily distribution and catchability of fish. This allows us to provide reliable fishing analyses more often than our competitors. We do not limit our analyses to simple sea surface temperature contour maps or pretty color images. Our ROFFS© Fisheries Oceanographic Forecasting Analysis is designed for fishing. We provide a full fishing forecasting analysis that has been interpreted by an expert fisheries oceanographer. Often a simple sea surface temperature map or pretty color image will only provide a combination of cloud cover and computer artifacts. It certainly will not allow you to understand the changes in the condition and motion of the ocean currents which are critical to fishing success. SERVICE & RELIABILITY: You receive personalized attention when you call ROFFS©. We have several telephone lines for incoming calls, and you speak with aknowledgeable person, rather than an answering machine or computer. We are open five - six days, and sometimes seven days per week, 10-15 hours per day. ROFFS© strives to never miss sending an accurate fishing analysis or leave a customer unsatisfied. We often extend our hours to serve our clients. After we send our analyses, our fisheries oceanographers are usually available to discuss the analyses individually. EASE OF USE: We are a service oriented business and enjoy helping people. We have spent many years developing and refining the background charts which cover the areas that a majority of the fishermen want to use. These background charts are easy to read. We are flexible and will change our background chart areas as you change your fishing area. We are user friendly. With ROFFS© there is no need to learn a complex computer program, or have a color printer. Our analyses are available from a simple fax machine. If you prefer to use a computer or want a color product, we can either fax to your computer (black & white) or provide a color fishing analysis over the Internet via electronic mail. EXPERT INTERPRETATION: The ROFFS© Oceanographic Fishing Forecasting Analysis is composed of a map portion and a text portion that are designed to direct you to the fish. The map provides a facsimile of the ocean conditions that we expect you to find during your fishing trip. The analysis is the result of studying the ocean conditions for several days. The text portion is truly unique. We first provide an overall review of ocean conditions. Then, we furnish details on the locations and conditions we feel will be particularly productive or unproductive, based on our time-tested analysis techniques. Subtle changes in the ocean conditions often have great consequences when locating fish. We pay great attention to detail. |

| COMPARED WITH ROFFS©, WHAT ELSE IS OUT THERE ? | |||
|
PRETTY COLORIZED IMAGES: Some other services are providing colorized satellite images which are claimed to be equal or better than our fishing oceanographic analysis. In limited cases, some of the basic temperature information provided in color enhanced satellite images is the same as what ROFFS© provides on the black and white map. However, in all cases we have seen to date, our black and white, or color ROFFS© analysis contains more information than any color image product. We actually use 256 shades of grey and color to conduct our analyses. Images provided by other services including those available on the internet do not provide such temperature resolution. Single satellite images can not provide the important information about water motion that is critical to forecasting fishing hot spots. Observing water motion from satellite imagery is not trivial. In addition, understanding satellite imagery by itself and relating it to fishing success is not as simple as it often is portrayed. Learning to distinguish a cloud boundary from an ocean boundary usually requires studying several consecutive satellite images along with experience to interpret the features. ROFFS© uses colorized satellite imagery, but provides an interpretation of the satellite data and integrates other oceanographic and meteorological data to provide a comprehensive fishing product which is unequaled. Also, you donıt need an expensive printer or monitor to use our product effectively. However, if you would like a colorized fishing analysis, we will send it via email. Also ROFFS© receives and uses the infrared and visible data from all three functioning NOAA series satellites (NOAA 12, NOAA 14, NOAA 16) in addition to the other satellite, ship, and buoy (public and private) data.
SIMPLE TRACES: Some competing services offer simple, inexpensive sea surface temperature traces. ROFFS© does not provide this because a static trace is not a fishing forecasting analysis. It takes more than a simple sea surface temperature trace or map to determine the areas where your best chances for fishing action occur. In addition, clouds create false contours that lead to erroneous results. |
|||
| OCEAN COLOR VERSUS WATER TEMPERATURE | |||
| MAPS OF OCEAN COLOR: We use ocean color and turbidity information for our analyses. The use of water color as an indicator of phytoplankton, ocean primary productivity, and fish as derived from satellites remains in an experimental stage. Water color data has yet to be shown as cost effective as infrared data. The cost of the SeaWiFS color data from SeaStar© satellite for commercial users is prohibitive. Be aware that the majority of the important ocean features observed with open-ocean color imagery were also observed with ocean surface temperature data. No one has shown that open-ocean color data, when compared with ocean temperature data, provides better information for finding fish on an operational basis. The main challenge with ocean color data derived from satellites, as with the sea surface temperature data, is cloud interference. ROFFS© has many years of experience providing useful fishing forecasting analyses in areas plagued with clouds. While we still have many improvements to make, we have developed unique (and proprietary) techniques using multiple satellites that allow us to differentiate between true ocean features and cloud artifacts. No other company has our level of experience in providing operational products for areas where clouds are a problem. Additionally, one must be able to interpret the significance of features seen in any imagery with confidence to provide a successful forecast. ROFFS© has proven year after year, that we provide useful fishing oceanographic analyses based on the best data available. Successful fishing is our business. | |||
| NEW PRODUCTS: | |||
| We continue to work on improving our products and services. During the fourth quarter of 2000, ROFFS© will be introducing a cost-effective product based on the water color (plankton) data derived from the MODIS sensors on the U.S. Tierra satellite. The data from this state-of-the science sensor promises to provide better information than the data derived from the earlier models of experimental sensors now available. We also plan to augment our services with one or more altimetry products, as well as, weather products. | |||
| THE BOTTOM LINE: | |||
| VALUE: ROFFS© provides an inexpensive fishing forecasting analysis considering the quality of the product. Our clients tell us that they find fish most of the time at our suggested "hot spot" locations or on the way to our "hot spots". When you consider the costs involved in searching for fish, the price of our analysis is well worth the savings in fuel and time. Having the confidence that ROFFS© takes every step to make every fishing day a success is important! ROFFS© has flexible pricing. You can buy fishing forecasting analyses for each trip, but you will receive substantial savings when you pay for a longer-term plan in advance. Remember our product has been improved every year and we continue to work to improve. Other companies make great promises on cheap fishing products that are inferior imitations of our time tested and time proven fishing analyses. Some universities and governmental organizations provide a variety of satellite data for free. However, with these data you still have to guess where the fish will be. How much extra time do you have to produce an amateurıs guess, after considering that we provide a professional interpreted comprehensive analysis as result of a dedicated business? Can you really afford to guess? What is your time and investment in your boat worth? If fish is what you want, then call ROFFS© because we will put you on the fish ! | |||
