Miss Britt Contender Boats Capt. Ray Rosher Wins 2017 Sailfish Challenge – Changing Conditions from ROFFS™

Capt. Ray Rosher and team fishing on the Miss Britt / Contender Boats won last weekend’s Bluewater Movements, Inc. 2017 Sailfish Challenge with a total of 16 releases winning a total of over $174,000!  Capt. Ray and his team released 11 fish by noon on the first day of fishing and finished with 16 sailfish releases for the tournament.  The second place boat had 8 releases which is significant meaning Capt. Ray had the event won by noon on the first day of fishing!  Along with various other daily categories, team Miss Britt also took home Top Male Angler (Matt Bierley), Top Female Angler and Top Overall Angler (Stephanie Choate) along with helping Contender Boats win the Boatbuilders Throw Down.

Fishing started out red hot on day 1 for Capt. Ray as his team on their 39′ Contender fished north of Boca Raton, FL where conditions were hot as two eddies located offshore of North Miami Beach and Port Everglades were pushing good water in a favorable inshore direction over the 20-50 fathom ledges offshore from Pompano Beach and northward towards Palm Beach (Figure 1). Although conditions appeared good for day 2 as well, these eddies moved through and northward overnight on Friday causing the main body of the Gulf Stream to occur offshore of the 100 fathom ledge and causing current inshore to die down for Saturday’s fishing (Figure 2).  Total releases for the tournament were 219, but 142 came on day 1 with only 77 coming on day 2 with the changing conditions.  Please see below for photos from the event along with ROFFS™ analysis images from Thursday and Friday February 23-24, 2017.
