Bisbee’s: Bisbee Family Tournaments are here

Bisbee’s Black & Blue
October 20 – 24, 2020

Los Cabos Offshore
October 15 – 18, 2020

Once again, for the 40th time the oldest and largest sportfishing tournaments held in Baja is about to take place. It’s hard to imagine that the Bisbee Family Tournaments brand was spawned by 6 boat affair that the was won by the promoter Bob Bisbee himself.

Forty years later, the three Bisbee Family events have exceeded the ONE MILLION DOLLAR THRESHOLD at least once, distributing 18 checks exceeding $1 million dollars to individual winning teams.

Early in 2020, the COVID-19 Pandemic closed Baja Sur’s borders to visitors and fishing was prohibited to everyone except those locals fishing for food for their families; the Bisbee team, led by Clicerio Mercado, began working with the local and state Government authorities, along with the tourism department, to develop  protocols that would allow the first of the Bisbee Family Tournaments, the Bisbee East Cape Offshore, to be safely held in early August.

Based on the successful result of that event, Government Protocols were fine-tuned, and adjustments were made to ensure the favorable outcome of the fall sportfishing events.

The Bisbee Team and an army of volunteers have been scurrying about taking care of last-minute details.

Same with the locals as they anxiously accept the States recent easing of Pandemic restrictions one more level which allows businesses to be one step closer to normal operations. This is great because the restaurants, hotels etc. will be able to accommodate even more of us. Just as important is that more locals can get back to work. The team is continuing to work with all the Mexican government agencies to ensure there is a safe and healthy environment at all the Tournament functions.

Both tournaments are just around the corner now and receiving multiple entries for both events every day and the numbers should be great.

“I hope everyone is as ready as we are to get down to Cabo and enjoy great fishing and everything else Cabo has to offer,” Bisbee observed recently.

All tournament functions are located at the API Cruise Ship Pier

As mentioned before, both upcoming tournament registrations and weigh-ins will take place at the API Cruise Ship Pier where the Black & Blue’s awards banquet has been held for several years.

Registration will take place at the base of the API pier and the weigh station is right next to this area on the edge of the Malecon. This is a much more convenient location than before for you to weigh-in that winning fish.

Our Bisbee’s Fish & Wildlife Conservation Fund’s fundraiser this year will be an on-line silent auction that will start on October 14th and will be live throughout both tournaments. It will end on Oct. 25th at noon Cabo time. This is a hugely important event for our Conservation Fund, and you can download the auction app from the Bisbees.com home page. Once registered, the app will allow you to bid and even notify you of bid levels throughout the weeks. We’ve got some fantastic prizes this year that you’ll love to win.

In an on-site raffle, we will also have 60 Custom Bisbee’s 40th Anniversary Logo Lures that were donated by Eat Me Lures available on the Black & Blue’s registration day for the first 60 $1000 donors! Each of these 60 donors will also have a chance to win a trifecta of free base-entries into our 2021 East Cape Offshore, Los Cabos Offshore AND the Black & Blue. The winner takes all!!!

Auction proceeds benefit the Green Scholarship Program that provides underprivileged Los Cabos students with college scholarship opportunities, the Bisbee’s revolutionary new RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Tagging Program and our Nkwe Tactical Training Academy wildlife anti-poaching Ranger training program in South Africa.

Finally, if you haven’t heard about the outstanding fishing at Cabo, billfishing has been great!  And if you are in the Gamefish Division in the LCO, there have been some nice-sized dorado and yellowfin tuna as well.

The bases are loaded.  There’s still time for your team to get off the fence and hit a home run.  You can’t win if you don’t play!

See you soon!
